A Paper Layout? Seriously?

Oh yes. Pink Paislee made me do it. Well, Scrap N' Art made me do it, but it was worth it because I got some Pink Paislee and oh, how fun is that?

So, the thing I like the most about this layout is the little mini-book attached for hidden journaling. Its not too thick, it will fit inside a page protector. But its got several little pages for me to write "love notes" to my girl. Someday, she will slip this page out of its protector and be able to read some of the thousands of things that made me love her at this moment in time. She will love that. And so I love it.

Buttons

I love buttons. Many months ago, my grandmother found out I have this tiny obsession and began letting her friends know. Suddenly, I had a box, a jar, and a bag, all full of buttons. Some were vintage, some ordinary. I love sifting through the colors and the styles, wondering what clothing each one might belong on. Then, thanks to Scrap N' Art, I received another motherload of buttons. Blumenthal Lansing has been making buttons for over 150 years. In fact, many of the buttons I got from my grandmother and her friends were from Blumenthal Lansing, so imagine how fun it was to get a stash of new buttons from the same company.

So today, I've got a treat for you.

First, a couple of projects I created using the new buttons I received.

This sits on a shelf in my craft room and I love the cheerful, bright button mix with the black and white photo.

Credits: Embellishments: Blumenthal Lansing "Favorite Findings Buttons: Berry Burst, Brilliant Blooms, Garden Gems, Kiwi, Lemon, Ocean Water, Orange Burst, Orange Spots, Raspberry Punch," American Crafts "Fieldhouse: Chipboard Backyard," Heidi Swapp for Advantus "Mirror Album," Maya Road "Office Sheers: Notes B&W"; Adhesive: Beacon Adhesives "3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue, Liquid Laminate"; Paper: BasicGrey "Periphery: Petit," Bella Blvd "Flirty: Bits A Bella"; Ink: Tim Holtz Distress Ink by Ranger "Black Soot"; Misc: Foam pop dots, Ikea frame "Malma"

And this one.

The flower buttons were calling out for a garden theme. This collage-style piece was fun to make and makes me smile when I spot it in my craft room.

Credits: Embellishments: Blumenthal Lansing "Favorite Findings Buttons: Garden Gems, Lemon, Trendy Buttons," Martha Stewart Crafts "Micro Glitter: Orange Sorbet"; Cardstock: Couture Cardstock "Butter Cream, Lily Pond, Rainforest, Waterfall," Close To My Heart "Sunkiss Yellow, Sunny Yellow"; Adhesive: Beacon Adhesives "3-in-1 Advanced Craft Glue, Liquid Laminate"; Color Spray: Tattered Angels "Glimmer Mist: Blue Skies"; Pen: Close To My Heart "Topiary"; Paint: Liquitex Basics "Titanium White"

And last but not least, for my digi gals, those vintage buttons from my grandma and her friends? Well, now you can share them with me for your layouts. Just click on the preview to download a stash of buttons for your personal use. A little freebie from me!

My Favoritest Project So Far

And if Favoritest is not a word, it should be. I had SO much fun making this a few months back but because it was in the Jan/Feb issue of Scrap N'Art, I couldn't show it on my blog until now. This is really my first 3D project. I want to make about 10 more of her but not sure what I would do with ten headless bodies lined up in a row. Perhaps a bit too Andy Warhol for me and my decor. But anyhoo, I really had fun making this!

She's 16" tall and completely covered in scrapbook papers from Graphic 45. I used an adhesive called Liquid Laminate which was awesome. Its very watery so if you are used to Mod Podge, it might take a bit of practice, but no bubbles and no streaks. I love the stuff. So she's wearing an apron which is fastened with ribbon. The apron has a pocket on it with an ATC inside.

Here's a closeup of the top of the apron. Flower, buttons, and grungeboard wings finish off this part of the piece.

This is her neckline. She's got Distress Stickles added to her ribbon collar and although she might appear to be a housewife, this is no plain-Jane ordinary housewife, as can be seen by the rub-on tattoos peeking out of her blouse. She's also wearing a necklace, which was made from an old buttoncover (you might need to be over the age of 35 or so to remember button covers), a punch from scrapbook paper, liquid laminate inside to gloss it up a bit, and a ribbon.

I don't have a close-up of the little birdie on her shoulder, but he's pretty cute too. He's got grungeboard wings and a button hat. He's got an idea-ology tag around his ankle and he's whispering in her ear all the things she needs to know to get through her hectic and busy day.

Thanks for looking!

A Little Thing

Here's a mini album card I made to showcase how much I love my hubby. He's awesome. So even though I forgot to give him the album card after it was done, he's still awesome. And I love him a bunch. How he puts up with me is, quite frankly, beyond imagination.

I Don’t Do Cards

but then sometimes I do. Especially when Scrap N'Art says "Hey, Carol, you gotta make a card!" and then. Well. I make cards. Some of the girls on the team make really fabulous cards. I'm lucky to figure out how to get more than one stamp and a message on the page. So here's some cards I made for the Jan/Feb issue of Scrap N'Art. Enjoy!
