Lightbulbs
While working on my Week in the Life project, following Ali Edwards blog, I was checking all my mail for interesting photos, colors, etc. We are members at the Natural Science Museum and they had articles on Theodore Roosevelt and Thomas Edison this month in their magazine. I tore the photos out, not sure what I would do with them. In the meantime, I have been taking a backgrounds painting class with Paulette Insall, and I have been cleaning out my old scrapbook supplies. I ended up with this mixed media painting. I was planning on letting Scott hang it in his man room but I think it turned out too pink, although he did say he likes it.

I started by creating the background with a bunch of techniques from Paulette's class. I then added the cutout photo from the magazine, a Tim Holtz journaling ticket, and the four letters punched out with a circle punch. I put a wash over the whole thing. Then I stamped the quote but you couldn't see it so I wasn't sure what to do about that. I drew the lightbulb with charcoal pencil and then painted it with acrylics. After putting the white-ish color on the bulb, it was too stark so I rubbed some of it off before it dried. Then I really couldn't see the stamped quote so I decided to free hand paint over the letters. It is much more messy but I like it. Maybe I could have stamped the words with an off white staz-on ink but I don't have any so I just went for it. I also painted over Mr Edison's name and the IDEA paper to make them stand out more. Its hard to write with a paintbrush, need to explore brushes at the art supply!
Have a happy and creative day, I am off to get a bagel and coffee with my mom and then work!
