The Chanukah Party and the Exploding Chocolate Fountain

Print Print

Seriously. This stuff could only happen to me. First, I thought our party started at 2pm. I was wrong. Yes, I personally chose the time, created the invites, mailed them out, and then promptly forgot the party was at 3pm. Turned out to be a good thing. So, at 1:55, we were ready to go and i was cutting the tops off the strawberries to add to the food table. Everything was there - the bimuelos, the sufganiyot, the cream puffs, the toasted pound cake, the pretzel sticks, the toothpicks, and the chocolate fountain. Scott had a bit of trouble with the chocolate but he had it working and so, had run off to jump in a fast shower. As I'm prepping the fruit, I hear a "clunk". I look over at the table and the chocolate fountain, the part with the layers and the twirly thing inside the tower, is lifting up. I said "oh" and all of a sudden, it lifts up and starts SPINNING CHOCOLATE ALL OVER MY BREAKFAST ROOM. Seriously. I'm not kidding. The table, the food, the floor, the WALLS, the wood blinds and the windows behind the table. Everything. Covered in chocolate. (Except the latkes, thank God they were still in the oven). I had to run INTO the chocolate to turn the damn thing off. I'm sure it would have been priceless to see.

Once I got it turned off, Isabella went to tell Scott, then came back to help. Everyone pitched in. As I started to clean, I stopped and said "Wait! I need a picture!" Scott said no, we had no time. Because I thought the party was at 2pm and now it was about five after. So we cleaned the floor, the walls, the wood blinds and windows, the table, oh the chairs, got new bowls and new napkins for the food. I think we got it cleaner than it is when the housekeepers clean it every two weeks. And THEN, we started wondering where the heck our guests were because honestly, by now, I was ready to just grab a glass of wine and give up.

Isabella went to get a copy of the invite and that was when we discovered I had been wrong about the timing of our own party for over a week. Sigh. I'm such an idiot. I could have had photos of the exploding chocolate fountain after all.

  1. Can’t believe there’s no photos!! You had me laughing!! Hope the party went off without a hitch after that!

  2. This is too funny. There’s always time for photos, don’tcha know? Did you get the fountain working again?

  3. I am sure it was one of a kind experience :)

  4. Kinda makes you wish there were cameras on the wall all set to go, huh? Well, except that you’d see the incoming chocolte bomb and then nothing…

Maybe there was some spiritual influence making you think the party was earlier because you’d need clean-up time? I hope the rest of the day was just peaceful and fun! :)

  5. The visual on this is just priceless! I really wish you had taken photos!! Hope your party went well after that!
