Goodies from my Grandma

Print Print

You know, not everyone my age is lucky enough to have grandparents still in their lives. My daughter (and her cousins) have great-grandparents, which is a beautiful thing. Not only are my grandparents wonderfully kind and generous people, they still love EACH OTHER, which is just an incredible thing we can all only hope to achieve. Anyway, we drank lots of coffee, talked, and then my grandma remembered that I wanted to see her old buttons. She pulled out a tin full, then another one, and then a box of stuff, then reached into her curio cabinet, then came back with a whole drawer from a dresser! I was in heaven. I got lace, I got buttons, I got old letters, I got a couple of weird coins, and I got all the stuff you see here. Very cool. And the prices were good. Like I said, generous. Please note that the gas receipt is from Nov 20, 1964 - wow! exactly 44 years ago, right? My grandpa bought 12.2 gallons for $4.00. Seriously, that's less than 33 cents a gallon. Wow. Cannot. Even. Comprehend. The little bank book hiding under the gas card is from my great grandmother and has a list of deposits inside from 1940 and 1941. And I have a love letter dated Feb 1, 1923 from a relative to his future bride, who eventually became my grandmother's mother. So incredibly cool. And there's more, so much more. Thanks Grandma, I can't wait to play with this stuff.

AND, I put a link to my blog on her internet browser so I'm hoping she will stop by and check out my posts. Maybe she will even leave a comment. She is a VERY up-to-date and wise 82 years!! Love you so much Grandma.
