A Really Really Good Day
Yesterday was a good day. A great day. I am literally filled with relief, gratitude, and joy for yesterday.
1. We had a parent-teacher conference at Isabella's school. She is doing terrific. I love her teacher. She came up with a solution for a very minor problem. See, they have this reading program at school. Its optional but the kids are encouraged to read books from a specific list then take tests to check their comprehension. They get points. This year, they need 75 points to go to a party at the end of the year. Isabella has 58 points so far and is showing no interest in completing the program. She LOVES to read, she reads every day. She reads before getting up in the morning, she reads in the hall before class starts, she reads after school, she reads A LOT. But she doesn't want to be bothered to find books that are on the list for the program. So we came up with a solution to get her the points she needs, because in the end, she will be very sad if she is the only one who doesn't get to go to the party, but without forcing her to read books she doesn't want to read. LOVE her teacher.
2. SCOTT ACCEPTED A JOB OFFER! Whoo hoo! Seriously folks, 300 resumes have been sent from this computer (I know that number because we have to report them to the state to collect unemployment) and only ONE interview which luckily, resulted in ONE job offer. AND he is really excited about the job. I'm SO SO SO happy for him and for us and thankful that we learned so many lessons over the past 5 weeks that will do us well in the future. This is a tough economy (you knew that already, right?) and we were planning on a year of unemployment for this man of mine so we are ecstatic. This greatly exceeds our expectations. And now I can get new tires for my car (badly needed) and a new microwave (long story).
3. JIMMY IS BACK. Okay, you don't know who Jimmy is, but Jimmy is important in our neighborhood. Jimmy opened up a neighborhood restaurant in our community about 4 years ago. About one year ago, Jimmy sold it to someone else. The neighborhood was crushed, but we knew it was the right thing for Jimmy to do because he wanted to retire and running a restaurant is hard. We missed Jimmy terribly. To be quite frank, the new guy ruined the restaurant. Made it tacky. Used cheaper products and charged more money. Everyone stopped eating there. So... turns out Jimmy had an option to take it back so as of yesterday, Jimmy is back at the restaurant. Its been freshly painted, new flooring, they threw all the food product in the trash and restocked, his wife Carmen is back too, all the old staff except one (oh that's just too sad a story) are back, we're thrilled. And it was HOPPING at lunch with a big Grand Re-Opening sign and everyone coming in to say hello to JIMMY. It was a nice add to an otherwise fantastic day.
Honestly, these are the things that make my heart sing. Big things, enormous things, tiny seemingly insignificant but oh-so-important things. Life is made up of all of this and more. Good and bad. Yesterday was full of good and I am grateful.
