Valarie Ostrom’s “Cottontail Lane”
Today’s post is about a layout I made with Valarie’s new kit, Cottontail Lane. Here’s my layout:

And here’s the kit. If you click on it, you’ll go straight to the kit in Valarie’s store at Sunshine Studio Scraps. Its an Easter kit, but since we don’t celebrate Easter in our house, I used it for this completely different layout about myself. Just goes to show you the versatility of the kit! And I loved the alpha because it came in SIX different colors! I was able to mix and match for my title work, which was a lot of fun.
1.2.3.
So I made this for Valentine’s Day for my hubby. And then I never gave it to him. I really, really suck at holidays. Which is so incredibly embarrassing when you are a crafter and your supposed to do all these cool, handmade things for all your loved ones. Such is my life.

This thing is small, like 4″x4″, or some such. It was a challenge to get lots of good stuff on a small space, but I did it. Maybe I’ll save it for next year’s Valentine’s. Scott, if you’re reading this, just ignore it and act surprised next year. Love you handsome.

A Couple of Projects
So a few months ago, I got to work with some Rusty Pickle product. This was right before they announced they were closing shop (boo) so my projects didn’t end up getting published in Scrap N’Art. If you don’t know Scrap N’Art, go check over there on my sidebar. Its a great magazine that comes to you in PDF full of over 100 pages of ideas and inspiration, both paper and digital. I love working with this company, everyone is terrific. Anyhoo, I got to work with Rusty Pickle stuff.
I made this card.

And I made this 6×12″ layout, only mine is more of a wall hanging than a layout. The square that looks like a photo is actually a mirror. When I look at this, I see myself. A nice reminder of who I can be.

Pink Paislee
So. I don’t do paper layouts very often anymore. But sometimes Scrap N’Art forces me out of my comfort zone and I am required to do something that is not my normal method. It usually freaks me out when it happens but I eventually end up enjoying the process. This was one of those situations.

As you can see, I still used my computer to print out my photo and added some text. I couldn’t resist a little bit of digital, so I guess that makes this a HYBRID project, right? Silly me for being so freaked out. The paper flower on the bottom right was made by cutting a strip of paper, then fan folding it on a slight curve. I then glued it together and plopped some buttons on top.

This bit of title work was done using my Dymo Label Maker. I cut a strip of paper and slid it through just like I would the label roll. Then I sanded the letters to help them pop. It worked great and honestly, I love my Dymo. I use it quite a bit in my projects. I had to hunt a bit to find one of these manual label makers, everyone sells the electronic ones now, but that doesn’t give you the embossing which is what I like about the whole thing!
